" A simple story, but interesting enough for my five-year-old without being too scary or dramatic. Completely different from the movie (of course). " Cute children's book/quick & enjoyable to read aloud. " it's diffrent from the movie well not that i've scene the movie but cemercials so yeah " - Madison, " This is one of those rare times when the book and the movie are both worth the time, and different beasties from one another. Younger kids probably won't understand that this is a Loch Ness Monster origin story, but lovers of animals and caper stories will enjoy it all the same. The characters are fun, including Crusoe, whose point of view is given in some of the story. With help from her little brother, Angus, and her grouchy grandfather, Grumble, she raises the creature (dubbed "Crusoe") as he gets bigger. The eight-year-old puts it in her bathtub, and out hatches a tiny sea monster. " Kirstie finds a strange object washed up on the shore near her home in Scotland after a storm. Then the people call the army and they try to kill it. So he takes it to the local lake and some people its the lock ness monster because its in Scottland. That means it is an animal that is supposed to be in the water and it grows to an EXTREME size. Then it hatches and it ends up being a water horse. ![]() Well it was about this boy who finds this egg, so he puts it in his garage type thing. " This was a pretty good book execept it was kind of kiddy. ALWAYS read the book before the movie! :) " - Jillybean, ![]() " Perfect & quick read-aloud for ages 5-12. We will watch the movie now and compare differences between the book and the movie. I think it would've even appealed to my 5 yr old son. " I read this to my daughter(8) and it kept her engaged and interested. This book is a great read-alike to _My Father's Dragon_ and would be a perfect read aloud chapter book. For everyone who has ever wished and hoped that the Loch Ness Monster is real, this book is a magical story of a family in Scotland who find their own sea monster. " _Water Horse_ isn't a new book, but it has recently been made into a feature film. I listened to it on audiobook being read by a Scotish man which gave the story so much more character! A perfect book for young children! Then of course you have to tell them the story of the Loch Ness "monster". " I enjoyed this classic tale of the water horse.
